Broken Pot

Mary, a young girl in a traditional Sudanese village, dreams of furthering her education and is well on her way with her high marks, and her mother's support. Her father however sees a traditional life for her and when the Chief comes with a large dowry to make Mary his bride, her father gives in.

The Cat's Paw

Set on the streets of St Kilda the play centres on 3 street hookers - underage, naive and ice addicted Monica, the older, wiser Abigail and Brigid, a middle class young woman, drawn to the detached life of the streets.Watching over them is an unlikely angel. Manipulation, raunch culture and the need for human connection are the central issues.

Stage Whispers

Twenty years ago, on opening night, the lead actor of the 1920's melodrama Harrow Hall was accidentally stabbed. His death closed the production. Now the company has reformed to try and save the Palace Theatre from demolition. The younger roles are played by new actors but everyone seems to have some connection to the original production. Will history repeat itself?

The play begins with the first rehearsals of the new production and we follow the actors journey through to opening, so, of course, the set needed to make this journey as well.

The Laramie Project

In 1998 news came from Laramie, Wyoming of the shocking bashing and eventual murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard.

4 weeks later the Tectonic Theatre Company from New York travelled to Wyoming and began conducting interviews with the people of Laramie in the hopes of understanding what had happened, why and hopefully construct a play that could contribute to the national (and international) dialogue on tolerence and acceptance that had arisen from these events.

After nearly 18 months they pieced together the 200+ interviews and reconstructed the media frenzy and trial to form the docu-drama "The Laramie Project"

Pajama Game

'Cute' 1950's musical set in the Sleep Tite Pajama Factory.  The workers are preparing to strike for a 7 1/2 cent payrise when employee representative 'Babe' falls for the new Superintendent.

"(Director) Crispin Taylor held it all together in this taut production which was aided by Shannon Norfolk's fascinating set design.  Instead of a curtain, sliding panels, which could go in any direction, were used, allowing the scenes to change in startling ways.

"The most memorable was the change from the dismal upper-level office at the pajama factory to the spilt level Hernando's Hideaway.  The panels seemed to slide in all directions simultaneously, with a sudden change of lighting from sterile factory flurescents to a dramatic blood red back-lit scene with all the actors in stark silhouette."

OPERA-OPERA

Theatre Design is creating a world that enhances the plays theme, ideas and the director's concept.  Even the most minimalistic design is the culmination of many hours of research, creativity and refining of ideas.
